(even if you've never used crystals before.)
Crystals are a part of nature, connecting us to the stability, renewal, and power of the earth. They have a high vibrational frequency, so it only makes sense that crystals will amplify your intention statement. Crystals can also serve as a physical and visual representation and reminder of our intention.
When using crystals for intention, keep in mind that there are NO RULES. Let your intuition, gut feelings, and spur of the moment ideas guide you. Do what feels right to you. The more you make this process your own, the more powerful it will be.
Don't worry if you're 'doing it right' because there is no 'right way' to use crystals for intention. (Assuming you're following general safety precautions, like not putting soft crystals in water or essential oils, or crystals with a higher toxicity in water that you'll be drinking or essential oils that you'll be putting on your skin.) Other than that, there are no rules.
Choosing what intention you wish to set seems pretty straight forward at first. After all, we each know exactly the kind of life we want to live and how healthy we want to be...
Let's say our intention is to lose weight. Okaaaaay... great, but what does that actually mean? What does it involve? If our intention statement doesn't tell us what we will do to lose weight, only that we will, it's a failure waiting to happen.
It will be difficult to follow through and actually achieve our intention of "losing weight" if we have no clear, written path how to get there.
Instead of setting the intention of "I will lose weight," break it down into little bite sized chunks that are easier to achieve than one big lofty goal. Think about the behaviors and mental endurance it takes to lose weight - diet, exercise, and commitment and set your intention around one of these behaviors.
We could set our intention to "eat a nutritious meal for lunch and follow a 30-minute exercise routine after work." Because eating a nutritious meal today and following a 30-minute exercise routine after work today is a lot easier to accomplish than "losing weight." If we keep setting (and following through on) these bite sized intentions, we'll eventually achieve our one big lofty goal.
We are each drawn to different crystals at different times. It might be the color or energy of the crystal that resonates with you. Or it may be the individual properties of a particular crystal that drew you to it. You may not even know or understand why you were drawn to it and that's ok, just let it happen.
If you're trying to decide which crystal will work for your intention, go with what feels right to you. But in case you're truly stumped, here is a list of a few crystals and their known properties:

Once you've chosen your crystal for your intention, you'll want to spend a minute or so focusing on it. Hold your crystal and clear your mind of negativity and thoughts.
If you're finding it difficult to clear your mind, a breathing exercise or short meditation can help.
Take 3 deep breaths, inhaling slowly and fully then exhaling slowly and fully. Concentrate your mind only on the process of breathing.
You can try a short meditation too if the breathing exercise alone wasn't enough to clear your mind. Use the syllable "lom." But don't move your lips or your tongue, only think it in your mind. Think the syllable over and over until your mind is clear and you are ready to focus your intention on your crystal.
Then, still holding your crystal, think about your intention. It's okay if you haven't formed your intention fully into words yet - your mind knows what the intent is and can imbue it into the crystal.
Your crystal will serve as a visual reminder of your intention, a way to channel and concentrate your thoughts. You can keep your crystal in your pocket throughout the day, let it hang out on your desk while you work, or keep it on the counter in the kitchen - wherever it will best serve you to help you accomplish your intention.
Now it's time to actually write your intention statement. Write one every day! Even on days you don't feel particularly ambitious, you can still have an intention statement that says, "Today I will relax, have fun, and be open to whatever my mind and body need because I have worked hard all week and I deserve this!"
You can grab any piece of paper to write on, but you may want to dedicate a cute little notebook to this so you can look back and read through your past intention statements and see how far you've come. (You can draft your intention statement on another piece of paper, then write the final one in your notebook).
While you write your intention statement, you may want to hold your crystal in your opposite hand, or set it on the paper and look at it while you write, or hold it over your heart, or over your third eye. It's completely up to you and how you feel it will best amplify your intention.
When writing your intention statement, remember to state only what you want, write in the present tense, avoid words like "try" and "could," make it believable, and start it with gratitude.

Once you've written your intention statement, you'll want to make sure it is set in your mind and your whole being.
You can write your intention statement over and over, and/or speak it over and over while holding/looking at your crystal until your body and mind feel that it is set.
If you find yourself forgetting about your intention throughout the day, take your notebook with you, or write it on a different piece of paper and put it in your pocket. Take your crystal with you as a visual and physical reminder.
The more conscious and fully aware we are of our intentions, the better the chances of us feeling fulfilled and reaching our goals.
Your intention statement may not be perfect the first (or second, third, or fourth time), but keep with it and it will evolve over time as you make progress!
